Mangohick (VA) Firefighters Raise Funds to Replace Wrecked Engine

To help raise $700,000 to replace a fire engine damaged in a rollover crash last month, Mangohick, VA, firefighters are planning a community auction, according to a report published by the Daily Press.

The newspaper reported that an engine belonging to the Mangohick Volunteer Fire Department flipped on a narrow road during inclement weather, injuring two firefighters and damaging the truck.

The auction will be on April 17 with all proceeds going to the cost of the new engine, the paper reported.

Broken Arrow (OK) Builds New Fire Station

By September, the Broken Arrow, OK, Fire Department is expecting to have most of the construction on a new fire station completed, according to a report from 102.3 KRMG.

The radio station said the city is replacing Fire Station #7, 40-year-old facility, with a new one with a price of $3.6 million.

The new station is being built a mile from the old location, according to the radio station.  The new facility will have four apparatus bays, accommodations for a battalion chief and other upgrades.

6 firefighters hurt battling massive blaze that tore through strip of stores in New York

VIDEO: Half a dozen firefighters were hurt battling an overnight Queens fire that ripped through a strip of shops, burning for over four hours overnight, the FDNY said. According to fire officials, they got a call just before 11 p.m. Thursday for a fire at 37-54 74th Street, a long strip of single-floor businesses in Jackson Heights.

Firefighter makes history as highest ranking woman in Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire

VIDEO: During Women's History Month, a firefighter in Pittsburgh is making her own type of history by becoming the highest-ranking female in the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire. Kari Burnham said, "This is something I love to do. It's like a dream come true." Burnham's passion is being a firefighter. Now she takes the title of lieutenant, which is an accomplishment that puts her in the history books as the highest-ranking woman in the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire.

West Virginia city remembers heroes who died in 1949 Woolworth fire

VIDEO: Thursday marked 72 years since the Charleston Fire Department lost seven of their crew members in the tragic Woolworth fire.
