Rome-Floyd County (GA) Training Center Renovated

The fire department has completed a major training tower renovation, reports Rome News-Tribune.

A burn building is next. The facility will let firefighters train under simulated or controlled fire and smoke conditions. It will be built next to the fire tower at the training center and construction is expected to begin in March.

A contract has been awarded for a new tanker truck, which is funded with SPLOST dollars. Specifications also are being developed for another new fire engine, which is expected to take 13 to 14 months to build.

Lorain (OH) Fire Department Seeks Voter Support

The Lorain Fire Department is hoping for voter support to pass a levy that would raise about $1.4 million a year for the department, reports Morning Journal.

In 2016, city voters approved the levy to build two new fire stations. If the vote pass two fire stations will be refurbished. The buildings will have roofs constructed.

The drains in the apparatus bay and in the station parking lot need replacement as well.

Bernardston (MA) Officials and Fire Department Seeks to Change Fire Station Design

The fire department has talked with town officials about amending designs to the fire station, reports Greenfield Reporter.

Firefighters would like to expand a hallway to allow room for gear lockers. The board hopes to receive an updated plan and a more accurate cost estimate from the architect.

The cost to renovate the old station on its own is comparable to including it in the work for the new station, and the town will seek bids for one project incorporating both buildings.

Estimates to renovate the existing fire station are between $200,000 and $300,000, including installation of a sprinkler system, which is projected to cost between $25,000 to $30,000. Under the proposed design plans, the new building would have a four-bay garage.

Older plans had considered moving the fire station, but officials want to keep the fire station in the center of town.
