Kentucky boy delivers thousands of cards to first responders

A Muhlenberg boy is finishing up a year-long journey. Seven-year-old Ayden Robbins does good deeds year-round, but he’s most proud of the thousands of cards he’s written to first responders. In all, he’s written cards to 68 departments across the country, from California to Alaska to Florida to Maine.

Fire department in New York holds moment of silence, remembers fatal 1983 blast

VIDEO: On Sunday 37 years ago, five Buffalo firefighters and two civilians died in one of the worst disasters the city has ever seen. A propane explosion leveled a portion of North Division Street downtown. Every year, the Buffalo Fire Department marks the exact time of the blast, 8:23 p.m., with a moment of silence.

Update: Removal of derailed train cars in Whatcom County to start today

Officials with the Department of Ecology say they plan to start removing the train cars that derailed in Whatcom County earlier this week starting Monday. Meanwhile, the cause of the derailment is still unknown. The tanker train hauling crude oil derailed near the town of Custer, Wash. on Dec. 22. An estimated six train cars derailed, and a spokesperson for BNSF Railways said three cars ruptured, spilling an unknown amount of crude oil onto the ground.

Fighting fire with paint brushes: The story behind Fire District 6’s new mural

Fire Capt. Clint Greenley fights fires and paints pictures. Both, he has loved since he was a child. This year, he found a way to bring the two together. With the completion of Fire District 6’s new Station 63 in Salmon Creek earlier this year, the agency found there to be quite a bit of blank wall space.

Vancouver home damaged in Christmas day fire

The Vancouver Fire Department says a mother and two kids escaped a house fire that started on Christmas evening. Crews responded just before 5:00 p.m. to a reported house fire at 610 W 37th Street. The first crew to arrive found a small fire in a living area and were able to quickly extinguish it from outside.
