Florida public safety building unveils state's first Safe Haven Baby Box

The state's first Safe Haven Baby Box was unveiled in front scores of residents, law enforcement and fire officials, as well as politicians and well-wishers at the southeast corner of the newly built fire and police building in Ocala. The occasion, attended by Monica Kelsey, founder and CEO of the Safe Haven Baby Box and Linda Znachko, founder of He Knows Your Name, was to let people know that a parent can leave a child in a safe environment.

Paramedic Alan Goto Becomes First Seattle Fire Department Member To Receive Coronavirus Vaccine

On Dec. 15 Paramedic Alan Goto – a 22-year veteran of the Seattle Fire Department – became the first department member to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. He received the first shot of the FDA-authorized Pfizer vaccination alongside several other healthcare workers at the UW Medical Center in north Seattle.

Driver pulled from burning car along Interstate 5 near Kelso

A driver is in the hospital after a car fire along Interstate 5 near the Kelso exit 39 in Southwest Washington. First responders were called out at about 7:30 a.m. on reports of a “fully-involved” car fire along the northbound lanes of I-5. Fire crews managed to extinguish the burning Jaguar shortly after they arrived on-scene.

Lynnwood council approves creation of new city department

Before breaking for the winter holidays, the Lynnwood City Council finalized several last-minute matters Monday night, wrapping up city business for 2020. At its Dec. 14 business meeting, the council voted to adopt multiple measures, including an ordinance creating the city’s new Department of Development and Business Services (DBS), which consolidates the existing department functions of community development, economic development and public works’ development engineering services.

15-year-old rescued by Spokane County Fire Crews after falling 50-feet down a rock face

A 15-year-old hiker is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after falling down a 50-foot rock face. According to Spokane County Fire District 4 and District 9, rescue crews responded to the location of the incident around 1:00 p.m. Technical rescue teams set up for a high angle rescue and made access to the patient with a stokes basket.
