Firefighters are working to put out a barge fire on the Snake River in Burbank on Wednesday.
Walla Walla County fire crews were called to the scene about 10:40 a.m. near Grain Terminal Road where the Snake River meets the Columbia River, according to the app PulsePoint, which shows the time and location of 911 calls where fire or medical services are needed.

A Pasco family is displaced after a fire damaged their home, and destroyed their garage and multiple vehicles Tuesday night.
A video taken by Kelly Poynor shows firefighters at work as flames were shooting out from the garage just before 9 p.m.
“Sounds like they have fireworks or something going on inside,” Poyner can be heard saying in the video.

The Edmonds City Council Tuesday night voted unanimously to get tougher on those who set off illegal fireworks in the city — to the tune of $500 for a first-time offense.
Under the amended fireworks code, a first-time violation is now considered a non-traffic infraction. Those getting caught a second time — or more — within five years can be charged with a criminal misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail.

Ongoing staffing shortages at the York County 911 Center have caused the center's director to reduce the frequency and kinds of nonemergency services that dispatchers have been providing to police, fire and EMS agencies.
The York Dispatch has obtained a copy of a two-page letter dated Sept. 18 that was sent to all York County police chiefs, fire chiefs and EMS officials by 911 Director Matthew Hobson.

Yesterday evening, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to provide critical resources to local fire and EMS personnel. The Helping Emergency Responders Overcome (HERO) Act (H.R. 1646) will develop peer mental health training programs and resources to educate mental health professionals about active and retired firefighters' needs.
