Firefighters are two times more likely to die from suicide than they are to die in the line of duty. September is National Suicide Prevention Month and on Tuesday, the Spokane Fire Department held a dedication to honor those first responders who rush in when others rush out. The Spartan Axe was created to honor first responders, who, because of their work, are at a higher risk of behavioral health concerns like anxiety, depression and burnout.

A woman who lived alone died in a house fire in Arlington Tuesday afternoon. According to the Arlington Fire Department, firefighers responded about noon Tuesday to a fire alarm at ahome in the 20400 block of 64th Drive NE. The 68-year-old woman who lived there died, firefighters said. She lived alone in the house.

Firefighters are investigating a car fire that started on the morning of Sept. 29. Crews were called out around 3 a.m. on Sept. 29 and when they got there they found the car on fire. It had spread to a near by fence and brushes. Kennewick Fire officials said the fair caused about $5,000 worth of damage.

KOMO News has learned a teenager arrested for one of the fires set during recent riots on Capitol Hill is suspected of additional serious crimes. This comes amid growing concern and frustration that people accused of serious crimes during protests aren't being held accountable. 19-year-old Jacob Greenburg faced a judge Monday after Seattle Police said he lit dumpsters on fire during the ‘Every Night Direct Demonstration’ last weekend.

Last week, Clark County Fire District 3 recognized 11 employees and a board member for a combined total of nearly 200 years of service. Recipients of awards ranged from five to 40 years of service with Fire District 3. “We appreciate the dedication and service that our employees and board members provide to our community everyday,” Fire Chief Scott Sorenson said in a news release.
