Asotin County fire chief sounding the alarm after falling victim to fake unemployment claim scam

An investigation is underway into just how many local victims there are regarding fraudulent unemployment claims. It’s an elaborate scheme where criminals steal your name and social security number, and file for benefits. “We have enough worries going on with this virus right now and that there are people out there trying to scam the systems, scam people, scam the state,” said Fire Chief Noel Hardin, Asotin County Fire District #1.

Update: Grandson’s fiancée also facing murder charges in Key Peninsula double homicide

The fiancée of the man accused of killing his grandparents then blowing up their house is also facing aggravated murder charges for her alleged role in the elderly couple's slaying. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, neighbors of the victims, 71-year-old "Ted" Ralston and 73-year-old Joanna Gormley, reported an explosion at their home Sunday evening (May 17) in the 18800 block of Bayview Road NW in the Vaughn area.

Chumstick Structure Fire Contained During Windy Day

Firefighters from Chelan County Fire District 3 as well as Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue battled a structure fire in a outbuilding in the 15000 block of Chumstick Highway just after noon Wednesday. Assistant Chief Glenn Brautaset stated that the homeowner had previously been using a lawnmower and put it away in the shed about an hour before the blaze, likely causing the fire.
