Phoenix firefighters using ice immersion to treat heatstroke victims as Southwest bakes in triple digits

PHOTOS: The season’s first heat wave is already baking the Southwest with triple-digit temperatures as firefighters in Phoenix — America’s hottest big city — employ new tactics in hopes of saving more lives in a county that saw 645 heat-related deaths last year. Starting this season, the Phoenix Fire Department is immersing heatstroke victims in ice on the way to area hospitals.

New video shows pursuit of stolen fire truck through city in California

New video has been released by the California Highway Patrol of the pursuit of a stolen Sacramento Fire Department truck from East Sacramento in North Sacramento. At 8:39 p.m. on May 18, reports came in that a Sacramento Fire Battalion Chief’s truck had been stolen, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Webb Fire grows beyond 15 acres outside East Wenatchee

A brushfire that started in the area of the Greater Wenatchee Regional Landfill outside East Wenatchee quickly went to three alarms at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Wenatchee Valley Fire Chief Brian Brett told NCWLIFE high winds contributed to rapid spread of the fire, which hit 15 acres quickly.

Follow-up: Hours after deadly North Seattle blaze, city votes to crack down on vacant buildings

VIDEO: Hours after flames tore through a vacant building in North Seattle and left one person dead, the City Council unanimously passed an ordinance aimed at preventing empty buildings from becoming death traps. According to data from the Seattle Fire Department in 2021, city crews responded to 70 fires at derelict properties.

VIDEOS: Some evacuees cleared to return home after 8-alarm fire at California construction site

A massive fire at a building under construction forced evacuations Monday in Redwood City. More than five hours after the fire started firefighters were able to contain the fire to the originating structure, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Although "under control," the area is in a 24-hour fire watch.
