Police, fire departments in Massachusetts town employ new weapon against spread of coronavirus

The police and fire departments have gone full Star Wars on battling the coronavirus. Cops and firefighters are using electrostatic guns to disinfect cruisers, cells, fire apparatus and equipment. “It looks like something out of Star Wars,” Police Chief Brian Clark said Tuesday, adding that the gun quickly and evenly coats a surface with a chlorine solution.

Michigan lawmaker floats income tax holiday for first responders, hospital workers

As lawmakers prepare a fourth round of stimulus relief in response to the coronavirus pandemic, a Michigan lawmaker plans to introduce a bill this week calling for a federal income tax holiday for doctors, nurses and first responders. Rep. Bill Huizenga, a Zeeland Republican, said the proposed tax holiday for three months is modeled after how the federal government excludes income taxes from members of the military serving on the front lines in combat zones.

1st responders line up outside California hospital to honor doctors, nurses, staff amid coronavirus outbreak

VIDEO: A group of first responders in Palmdale expressed their appreciation to those on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic Monday night. Fire truck flips over in north Clark County

A fire truck responding to a medical call Monday on an unpaved road in north Clark County toppled over into a small creek, likely putting the emergency vehicle permanently out of commission. Clark County Fire District 10 crews were dispatched about 8:20 a.m. to the 6200 block of Northeast 405th Street, northeast of La Center, for a report of a person having a fainting episode due to abnormal breathing.

Bellevue dentist accused of torching boxes of medical masks, gear

A Bellevue dentist is accused of burning boxes with protective medical masks and gear in an attempt to destroy his office even as local doctors scramble to get those supplies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the second arson at the office in consecutive days, police allege. Firefighters were first called to a fire at the suspect's A to Z Dental office at 1515 116th Ave NE in Bellevue on the afternoon of March 23, according to court documents.
