Florida firefighter held at gunpoint during check on senior citizen

A senior citizen held at gunpoint an Orange County firefighter who’d entered her home to check on her well-being Thursday morning, before releasing him unharmed, according to Fire Rescue spokeswoman Carrie Proudfit. Though shots were fired at first responders during the incident, no one was injured, Proudfit said, adding that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is not currently planning to pursue criminal charges.

Union: Entire Nashville Fire Department should get tested for COVID-19

A handful of Nashville Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services employees have tested positive for COVID-19. The president of the International Association of Firefighters has some concerns. “The ideal situation wouldn’t be to close a station, if you need to quarantine all personnel from that station, then do it," said Mark Young.

Washington exceeds 30,000 COVID-19 cases one day before statewide mask mandate

Washington state's confirmed COVID-19 case total exceeded 30,000 Thursday, just one day before Governor Jay Inslee's statewide mask mandate will be in effect. The Washington State Department of Health reported 30,367 COVID-19 cases, up 498 from Wednesday, and 1,300 deaths, up seven from the state's last coronavirus report.

Governor: Spokane ‘right on the verge of a very dire situation’ as COVID-19 cases continue rise

Welcome to the first wave, Spokane. Gov. Jay Inslee visited Spokane on Thursday amid soaring COVID-19 infection rates that are higher than they’ve ever been and increasing hospitalizations. What he found was equal parts disheartening and hopeful. “Spokane is right on the verge of a very dire situation because of this pandemic,” Inslee said.

Police investigate rash of arsons in South Seattle

A series of arsons in South Seattle has triggered an alert from fire officials, who say businesses and residents should take steps to prevent more of the deliberately set fires. At least eight of the arsons occurred Monday through Wednesday, and the majority of them were located along or near Rainier Avenue South.
