Coronavirus taking toll on Seattle area's first responders

VIDEO: COVID-19 has hit Seattle’s fire and police departments. As of Monday, there have been at least a dozen COVID-19 cases among Seattle's police and fire departments. Dozens of the city's first responders have been exposed to the deadly virus, a spokesperson for the Seattle mayor's office said. According to the spokesperson, 200 of Seattle first responders have been exposed to COVID-19, making it a challenging time and fluid situation for city leaders like Fire Chief Harold Scoggins.

The ‘brain’: Emergency Coordination Center at the heart of Spokane’s COVID-19 response

There are no flames to spray water on. There is no criminal to handcuff. In an unassuming, out-of-the-way building near Spokane Community College, scores of elected leaders, emergency responders and public health officials coordinate their response to the crisis facing Spokane County. Battle Ground blaze calls out 5 trucks, 3 water tankers

PHOTO: Five fire trucks and three water tankers were called out to a fire in Battle Ground, Washington Monday evening. Crews got the call for help around 7 p.m. and arrived at NE 239th Street to find the building fully engulfed in flames. The structure on fire was an 18,000-square-foot outbuilding/shop, according to Clark County Fire and Rescue.

Spokane sewing community makes masks for first responders

As she left Joann fabric and craft store in north Spokane on Sunday afternoon, Allison Tripp donned a homemade face mask. The mask was the first of many attempts for Tripp, who had returned to Joann to buy more supplies. Tripp and people across Spokane have flocked to local fabric and craft stores for supplies to make masks for first responders.

One killed in Ferndale house fire

A woman was killed in a residential fire in Ferndale on Monday. Firefighters from Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded to a report of a residential fire in the 7200 block of Enterprise Road at about 11:15am. A man and woman were reportedly trapped inside. Fire Chief Larry Hoffman tells KGMI the man was able to escape, but efforts from bystanders to rescue the woman were unsuccessful.
