Whats that smell? Smoke from ag burns in Grant County fill the air earlier than usual this year

Local fire agencies are blaming farmers for the smoky aroma that’s been filling the air locally as of late. The news of agricultural burns may come as a surprise to some with it happening earlier this year. Firefighters say burnable materials are drying out faster and the air isn’t as stagnant due to a very mild winter followed by warmer weather.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue hires four career firefighters

The next 12 months will be very busy for four new North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR) recruits. Prior to being hired on January 6, the four new recruits – Gary DeJager, Philip Jackson, Alden Roberts and Chris Lubenow – were required to complete a variety of pre-hire testing. This included a written test that covered mechanical aptitude, basic math, spelling, reading comprehension and memorization.

Soap Lake man fined $3,000 for burning garbage, furniture

A Soap Lake man has been fined $3,000 by the Washington Department of Ecology after repeated violations of outdoor burning rules, according to agency officials. David E. Ewing was cited for an Aug. 4, 2019, incident after Grant County Fire District No. 7 responded to a report of an outdoor, unattended fire, in which Ewing was burning household garbage and furniture at his home at the 20400 block of Northeast Road B.

Firefighter injured after DWI suspect slams car into Texas fire station

VIDEO: A DWI suspect crashed into a fire station leaving one firefighter in the hospital overnight. Houston Fire Chief Sam Pena visited the firefighter at the hospital overnight. HFD District Fire Chief Ruy Lozano said the firefighter suffered a head injury, possibly a concussion. Pena later tweeted on Thursday morning that the firefighter had been released from the hospital.

Denver Fire Chief Eric Tade Resigns After Bawdy Firefighters Ball

Denver Fire Chief Eric Tade has resigned his position with the Denver Fire Department. Tade gave his resignation to Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Monday afternoon. “Chief Tade is dedicated to this department, and his decision that new leadership was needed reflects his devotion to the men and women who serve our residents in the Denver Fire Department,” Mayor Hancock said in a statement.
