Nebraska first responders could get training, help with PTSD under bill advanced by Legislature

First responders in Nebraska would be offered annual “resiliency training” to help combat and cope with post-traumatic stress disorder under a bill given initial approval by state lawmakers on Wednesday. State Sen. Mike McDonnell, a former Omaha fire chief, said that 1 in 4 firefighters on average will visit an emergency room during their career for physical injuries on the job.

Rubber ducks popping up in Georgia county; here's who's doing it, and why

It isn't easy to describe the life of an emergency responder, but Jonathon Gould, with Chatham EMS, sees it as "sheer boredom interrupted with complete chaos." Gould, a 26-year-old emergency medical technician from Ludowici, has wanted to help others since he was a teenager, putting himself through EMT school at the age of 17.

New Law Would Allow Key Peninsula Fire District 16 To Offer More Care

The state Legislature is on track to approve Senate Bill 6058, a Key Peninsula Fire District 16-inspired measure to change existing law granting it the authority to provide basic care and preventive medicine to anyone in the community. State Sen. Emily Randall (D-26th, Bremerton) agreed to sponsor the bill and found four other co-sponsors.

Kennewick firefighters rescue rabbit from house fire

Firefighters rushed to put out a fire at a home in Kennewick, saving a rabbit along the way. Around 1:00 a.m. Sunday, crews responded to the home near Arthur Place and Fifth Avenue. Flames could be seen coming from the house when they arrived. The homeowners were able to safely get out. Firefighters put out the fire and found out there was possibly a rabbit in the basement, according to the Kennewick Fire Department.

Two dozen first responders in Kirkland quarantined for possible coronavirus

VIDEO: Two dozen emergency workers are off the job as they are being monitored for possible exposure to the coronavirus. Earlier Saturday evening, KIRO 7 was told it was seven fighters but that number climbed to 25, adding two police officers who are being quarantined. Fire station 21 in Kirkland has a sign up tell people to keep out, including firefighters based there.
