Denver-area fire departments adapt call screening, convert ambulances to combat coronavirus outbreak

The ambulances at the West Metro Fire Department have been turned into isolation rooms on wheels. The countertops have been cleared, the EKG machines have been bagged, and the back of each ambulance has been sealed off from the cab. This is just part of the fire department’s plan to battle COVID-19. Fire departments across the state, including Denver, Aurora, Arvada and Fort Lupton, changed the way they do business as the coronavirus spreads.

Tennessee fire department receives hand sanitizer from stash of nearly 18,000 bottles stockpiled by brothers

Several boxes and hand sanitizers have been delivered to a fire department in Tennessee after two brothers who tried to capitalize on the coronavirus outbreak by stockpiling nearly 18,000 bottles with the intent to resell the goods had their stash cleaned out. The Chattanooga Fire Department said on Facebook it received a donation of sanitizing products after a "viral story" about individuals who "purchased thousands of those items.

Without exemption from daycare closures, Kentucky police, fire say COVID-19 response at risk

Kentucky firefighters, police and other public safety workers say the Friday closure of most child care centers could hurt staffing, hamper public safety and impede the state’s response to the coronavirus outbreak. To stop the spread of the respiratory illness, Gov. Andy Beshear ordered Kentucky child care centers closed by Friday.

One person recovering with minor injuries after Burbank home catches on fire twice in one day

A resident is recovering at a local hospital after their house was engulfed in flames Tuesday twice. Walla Walla Fire District #5 crews say they were called to the 300 block of Ringhoff Rd. at 10 a.m. Tuesday, then again at around 6 p.m. Crews say the fire was rekindled after the initial call. That is when the responders found the resident with minor injuries.

Bainbridge Island fire department closes stations to public, adopts anti-viral protective measures for responders

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department has canceled all ride-alongs, station tours and community room use to curb the spread of COVID-19. The department has also closed facilities to walk-in assistance. General assistance and information can still be obtained via the fire department’s main office line and website.
