2 injured as major natural gas leak, fire trigger evacuations in North Seattle

A North Seattle neighborhood was evacuated and two Puget Sound Energy workers were injured after a major natural gas leak and fire erupted there, police and emergency officials said. Off-duty Seattle fire lieutenant helps put out fire at University of Washington Medical Center

An off-duty Seattle fire lieutenant was at the right place at the right time when a fire broke out at the University of Washington Medical Center last week. On Oct. 2, Lt. LeRoy Sisley was visiting his wife on the seventh floor of the hospital when a fire alarm went off on the first floor. Sisley decided to rush down to the first floor to investigate.

Fire damages Edmonds townhouse

No one was injured in an early-morning fire caused more than $55,000 damage to an Edmonds townhouse. A passerby called 911 at 4:35 a.m. to report smoke and flames coming from the two-story structure in the 7800 block of 196th St. SW. “This is less than half a mile down the road from Edmonds Fire Station 16 so we had firefighters on scene within minutes,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for South County Fire.

Douglas County Fire District 2 wins $1 million grant for new firefighters

Douglas County Fire District 2 is growing. The district was awarded $1,070,724 last month through a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to pay for five more career firefighters. “This is a huge boost to the district’s financial stability as we continue to expand services and protection to the people who live, work and visit our area,” Fire District 2 Commissioner Bob Black said in a news release.

2 fires burn through Pierce County food bank, apartment complex

Pierce County fire and rescue crews responded to two fires back-to-back early Friday morning. Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, West Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded to an apartment fire in Lakewood. The fire tore through a 2-story apartment complex the Clover Creek Apartments on Addison Street. One person is in critical condition and is being transported to the hospital.
