Morton Mayor Dan Mortensen made the case Monday morning for combining his city’s fire and emergency services with Lewis County Fire District 4, at the Lewis County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting, at which the board endorsed a Feb. 13 special election that would allow citizens to decide the fate of the proposal.

Voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a Medic One levy that will fund countywide emergency medical services (EMS) for 2020-2025. Unofficial results showed 79.1 percent of voters approved the measure. This levy replaces an expiring Medic One levy that has provided critical funding to the EMS system for the past six years.

Spokane firefighters had a busy morning on Wednesday as two separate structure fires were called out within 30 minutes of each other. The first fire was at a small business in Hillyard near Market and Diamond. Fire crews on scene told KHQ's Stephanie Stevenson that the small business owners arrived Wednesday morning to find their lobby was damaged by fire.

Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority recently added two new engines, one in Kent and one in SeaTac. The two new Pierce Enforcer engines went into service as Engine 77 in Kent and Engine 47 in SeaTac. SeaTac contracts with Puget Sound Fire, which broke off from the city of Kent in 2010 when voters approved a regional fire authority funded by property taxes and fire benefit charges (a variable rate fee).

A renewal of Clallam County Fire District 3’s Emergency Medical Service (EMS) levy will continue for 10 more years starting Jan. 1, 2021. Voters in Clallam and Jefferson counties approved the EMS levy of $0.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value with 5,684 yes votes (72.81 percent) to 2,122 (27.19 percent) after initial general election counts were released Tuesday.
