Kennewick: City responds to former Fire Chief Beasley's announcement

The City of Kennewick responds to last night's email that was sent out by former Fire Chief Vince Beasley that said the City of Kennewick placed him on “administrative leave” and asked him to return keys and city property. The city's press release states, "City Manager Marie Mosley has been working with former Chief Beasley for an extended period of time on performance and leadership concerns.

Spokane firefighters experiencing volunteer shortage

Arguably one of the most important jobs in the community is becoming one of the toughest to find volunteers for. A recent report says around 65% of firefighters across the nation are volunteers. Those volunteers are becoming increasingly harder to recruit, and Spokane is no exception. “We’ve definitely seen a slight decrease in a traditional volunteer,” said Deputy Chief Orlando Sandoval.

House fire in Vancouver extinguished

The Vancouver Fire Department responded to the house fire at 8:48 a.m. on Saturday with the first engine arriving at 13125 S.E. 11th Street in four and a half minutes, according to a department press release. According to the press release, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a second-story window.

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue battalion chief dies in the line of duty

A battalion chief with Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue died in the line of duty Thursday afternoon, the Kelso Police Department said. Police have not released details on how Mike Zainfeld died. They said firefighters from the fire department and troopers from Washington State Patrol escorted his body to the Thurston County Coroner’s Office for examination.

Update: Cowitz 2 Fire & Rescue veteran died by suicide, death considered LODD

Battalion chief Mike Zainfeld, a 25-year firefighting veteran of Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, took his own life Thursday morning while in Thurston County, the fire agency and Kelso police reported Friday . Zainfeld, 41, had been on leave and was not on shift or duty when he died. His death is related to a job-related injury incurred by occupational stress according to the release.
