Dozens of third-graders spent Tuesday morning learning how to safely get out of a home. The EDITH house (Exit Drills in the Home), was brought to Robinson Elementary School.
The mobile house is designed to simulate a home filling up with smoke and alarms going off. Kids split up into two groups. Pasco firefighter Ben Shearer taught one group about crouching down below the smoke if a fire starts.

The Cowlitz County commissioners Tuesday awarded federal funding to Cowlitz Fire District 6 to provide emergency services to the Mount St. Helens area.
The fire district, which serves Castle Rock and the northern part of the county, received funding from the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.

The Spokane Police Department has released more details after a man was arrested following a string of fires on Tuesday, September 24.
According to police, the first of the fires was reported on the west side of the South Hill just before 10:00 am. Two witnesses came forward to the police and one provided a photo, which ultimately helped officers find the suspect.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the City of Vancouver’s Fire Marshal’s Office an approximately $224,446 Fire Prevention and Safety grant.
The grant will support the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Project Home Safe campaign to reduce the frequency and severity of residential fires through fire and life safety education and outreach.

A family of four lost everything Saturday morning as their small Lake Lawrence home was engulfed in flames due to an apparent malfunction with the building’s water heater.
No injuries were reported.
First responders received calls from the homeowner around 7:10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, with reports that their home at 17319 154th Way S.
