Lopez Fire and EMS Paramedic Tracie Red Elk is retiring

After 19 years of dedicated service on Lopez Island, Battalion Chief/Paramedic Tracie Red Elk is hanging up her stethoscope, stowing her fire helmet and sailing off into a well deserved retirement. Tracie began her Lopez Fire and EMS career in 2000 as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. She went on to become a paramedic in 2010 and brought those critical life saving skills to Lopez.

Clark County Fire District 3 investigating suspicious fires in Battle Ground

Clark County Fire District 3 is investigating “suspicious” structure fires of a house and workshop they responded to Sept. 19, the district announced last week. Fire personnel responded to the fires in the 1100 block of Southeast 20th Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 19, according to a fire district news release.

Stabbing attack inside same house as medic run leaves Detroit Fire Union Chief wanting better responder protection

"People can flip on a dime, this situation was so quick and so crazy," Detroit Fire Union Chief Mike Nevin said, describing the dangerous scene his fire crew faced Saturday night. They were called to Arizona Street for a man in his 50s who had a possible heart attack. When medics arrived they started CPR.

Families of Florida firefighters protest against proposed pay cut

The families of Hialeah firefighters gathered together Monday with a very public message about pay. They are upset over a pay cut and the timing of the city's announcement about the cut. Monday's news conference was organized by the Hialeah Firefighters Union, but the faces of the event were the spouses and the children of the local firemen and women.

University student firefighters in Louisiana help protect their fellow students

In addition to their textbooks and classwork, Nicholls State University students Ira Bourg and Landon Woolridge always carry their pagers to class with them. The small radios let these students know when it’s time to take action on their other role as firefighters with the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department.
