For the fifth-straight year, the Lighthouse Festival will honor local heroes with an appreciation dinner. New this year, however, is that the dinner will be combined with the annual sponsors/VIP dinner. The Spokane Fire Department is hosting their annual Kids Junior Fire Academy in River Park Square on Saturday. . Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to learn alongside local firefighters and see if they have what it takes to one day become one. The free event will have a junior combat course where kids will be able to spray a fire hose, perform a "rescue," race to put on their uniforms and "knock down" a door.

More than $22,000 has been donated since Wednesday for injured Okanogan firefighter Christian Johnson. Over 300 people have donated on a GoFundMe account created Wednesday to help Johnson’s family with expenses. An account is also set up at North Cascades Bank under the Christian Johnson Donation account.

VIDEO: It was an alarming sight, a CAL FIRE truck flipped over and smashed items littered across the ground. Detectives say the firefighter driving the truck lost control in the small town of Ducor, just south of Porterville, and the firefighting vehicle flipped multiple times. The driver suffered major injuries in the crash and is being treated at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, while the other three firefighters only had minor injuries.

As states in Hurricane Dorian's path are sending out calls for help, some of San Antonio's most skilled firefighters are answering that call. The crews are part of an elite state team called Texas A&M Task Force 1. Though the mission is dangerous and overwhelming, it's one they've taken on many times before.
