The Tacoma Fire Department launched the TFD’s Safe Station Program at Fire Station 1 (901 Fawcett Ave.) on August 28, 2019, the first Safe Station program in Washington State.
The program offers 24-hour seven day a week help to individuals experiencing opioid use disorder, and provides an additional way to access and receive immediate opioid use disorder treatment and other needed resources.

A formal ceremony honoring first responders and the lives lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks is set for noon on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 9/11 Memorial Waterfront Park in Port Angeles.
The ceremony at what was previously called Francis Street Park, 400 N. Francis St., will feature presentations by public safety officials, patriotic music and bagpipes, said Alan Barnard, who is organizing the event.

On Aug. 29, the Sequim High School auditorium played host to two sessions of a training seminar put on by Jesus Villahermosa, Jr. of Crisis Reality Training. School district staff and members of the community learned about how to better handle active shooter or active lethal threat situations.
“There’s no perfect plan for these situations,” said Villahermosa, who said that he retired from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department as a sergeant and member of their SWAT team several years ago.

VIDEO: Cal Fire has opened an investigation into how a local fire department’s fire engine was burnt over, leaving two firefighters hurt during the Country Fire in the community of Cool Thursday.
The twisted and burnt front end of a Garden Valley Fire Department engine sits in the middle of a blackened property.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol released dramatic dashboard camera video from a few weeks ago, when two firefighters in southeast Oklahoma were hit by a trailer along the side of a wet road.
The video shows two men with the Stringtown Fire Department standing in a grassy area off a road in the rain when the driver of an SUV heading in the opposite direction lost control.
