California fire chief to attend State of the Union as congresswoman's guest

In the last year, Ventura County's first responders have been put through the wringer. From the Thomas Fire in December 2017 to the Woolsey Fire, and the shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in between in November, it's safe to say it hasn't been easy. But in the face of all the hardship and tragedy, Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen has been a steadying force not only for the first responders, but for the community — which is why Congresswoman Julia Brownley will have Lorenzen as her guest to the State of the Union Address Tuesday night in Washington, D.

'No Man's Land' can leave families without help during an emergency

A fire starts in your kitchen. You call 911 and tell them what's going on. They take down your information but no help comes. And you watch your home burn to the ground. That's exactly what happened to Donald Isadore's aunt because she lived in "no man’s land". “The most hurtful part was not getting any help from anyone to help with that fire.

Baltimore City Council to Question Leadership After Fire Apparatus Catches Fire and Fire Station Shuts Down

 
 

A department spokeswoman said then that its ability to provide emergency services was not affected, but Mayor Catherine Pugh subsequently set into motion plans to buy an extra $1.2 million firetruck.  

Then, last month, a firetruck caught fire — and it wasn’t the first time it’s happened in Baltimore. The union said the truck was 17 years old.  

IAFF Local 734 President Richard “Dickie” Altieri posted about the incident on his Facebook page, saying the rescue truck was responding to an incident on Interstate 95 when it caught fire. He said it shows that the “dilapidated fleet needs attention sooner than later.”
