Adolescents setting more fires in Yakima; officials offer counseling program

Yakima firefighters are taking steps to prevent preteens and young teens from starting fires, which firefighters say is a recent trend in Yakima. The city and the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) said Thursday they have encountered an uptick in fires that are intentionally started by kids between the ages of 11 and 14.

Firefighters bring Santa to Bothell

Santa Clause is coming to town with help from Bothell firefighters this year as local IAFF members prepare for their inaugural food and toy drive. Currently, about nine local firefighters are decorating their truck with holiday lights in preparation for the three-week charity drive. The firefighters will spend their free time during three days over three weekends from 5-6 p.

Two fires displace four Longview families

Four Longview families were displaced by two different fires Wednesday evening, according to the Longview Fire Department. Three of those families were involved in an apartment fire reported at 5:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of Dorothy Street. Battalion chief Troy Buzalsky said the department “redeployed” fire crews from another potential fire reported in West Longview, and units from as far away as Kalama were also sent to help.

Abilene ISD Fire Academy Utilizes Old Fire Station To Give Students Hands-On Experience

Classes are underway at old Fire Station 3.  Taught by a former Abilene Fire Fighter who worked for the department for almost 22 years, the academy takes the lecture from the classroom out into the field. 

"We have an old fire truck here. We are able to pull it out and spray water. we are able to put on bunker gear, we are able to get out ladders and do all the things that you would do at a fire station," Miller said.
