VIDEO: At least seven people were killed Monday in a slew of crashes along Interstate 55 in Louisiana’s St. John the Baptist Parish that involved at least 158 vehicles, state police say.
More than 25 people were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical, Louisiana State Police said in an evening news release.

PHOTOS: The old hose reel on its tall, spindly wheels was state-of-the-art fire equipment when it first hit the streets in about 1879.
It responded to its last fire call more than 100 years ago, and largely disappeared from view. Today, following a full restoration job, it occupies a place of honor in the Fort Dodge firehouse.

Clallam County Fire District 3 firefighters extinguished a recreational vehicle fire on the 800 block of Youngquist Road early Monday morning.
Battalion Chief Chris Turner said firefighter arrived to the RV about five feet away from a wooden structure just before 8:30 a.m. Oct. 23.
No occupants were inside the RV when it was discovered to be on fire, Turner said.

A homeowner lost a pet in a house fire in Kelso Monday morning.
At about 9:45 a.m., Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue and Longview Fire were called out to a fire in the 100 block of North Maple Street. Officials say a delivery driver reported a home was on fire and that it appeared no one was home.
When crews arrived to the scene, they saw flames and smoke coming from the home.
