A new piece of equipment will enable the Meredith Fire Department to better combat grass and woods fires as well as battle building fires in the more remote parts of town, according to the town's fire chief. The department placed the new forestry vehicle in service last week.

A firetruck overturned in Kanawha County overnight, closing a busy roadway for several hours.

Three firefighters were on their way to battle an abandoned house fire when their fire engine turned over onto a guardrail. It happened on Little Coal River Road in Alum Creek around 1:30 a.m. The Davis Creek volunteer firefighters were heading to a fire at an abandoned trailer on Clay Lane to assist the Alum Creek Volunteer Fire Department, fire officials said Tuesday morning.
