Follow up: Woman who said God told her to set series of fires in Spokane convicted for arson

A woman charged in a series of arsons in Spokane in August was convicted this week. The woman -- 53-year-old Vickie Smith -- was said to have started eight fires in the Sunset Highway/Hills area of Spokane on Aug. 3. She was convicted for first and second degree arson on Wednesday with a recommended sentence of 41 months in jail.

Fire destroys home in California that helped people in need

PHOTO: A predawn house fire in a neighborhood near Chollas Lake displaced 11 residents Wednesday and left a firefighter injured, authorities reported. The blaze erupted about 5 a.m. in a detached garage next to a home in the 3100 block of Chateau Way in Lemon Grove, Heartland Fire & Rescue spokesman Andy McKellar said.

Minnesota fire department's new Quint 4 apparatus reduces emissions and can alert drivers when approaching

VIDEO: The Duluth Fire Department recently put a new Quint 4 apparatus into service with two features unique to the vehicle. “One is the HAAS safety cloud. It’s an alerting system that alerts drivers that are using Apple maps, or if you’re using Waze, or if you have a Jeep, Chrysler or Dodge make that’s 2008 or newer, this system will actually alert you when the fire truck is approaching you,” explained Deputy Chief Mike Consie.

Man gets 12 years for 2021 apartment shooting, explosion that wounded Texas firefighters

The man who shot into a southeast Oak Cliff apartment in 2021, severing a gas line and causing an explosion that injured several people, including Dallas firefighters, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday, according to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Phillip Dankins, 30, was sentenced to 12 years on a drug charge and 12 years on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, the DA’s office said.

New York City firefighters seen cutting apart truck that got wedged in tunnel, causing traffic nightmare

PHOTOS: A truck got stuck in a New York City tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan causing a miles-long traffic jam, resulting in firefighters sawing apart the vehicle's trailer, officials said. The 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck became wedged about a mile into the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel on Thursday morning, and it took responding crews around two hours to remove the vehicle, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
