A nationwide test of the emergency and wireless alert systems will be conducted Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. ET, when a message will be sent to all cellphones, TVs and radios.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said in a news release in August that a message that reads, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System.

Investigators are looking into the cause of an apartment fire that left one person injured and two animals dead on Tuesday morning.
The fire began around 6 a.m. in Spokane Valley on Tuesday.
Firefighters say the injured person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They are expected to be ok.

PHOTOS: A car fire blocked lanes of southbound Interstate 405 in Renton on Tuesday.
The Washington State Department of Transportation first reported there was a disabled vehicle at 9:25 a.m.
The vehicle was engulfed in flames in the HOV lane near Northeast 44th Street. All traffic stopped after a truck positioned itself across the lanes when firefighters had not yet arrived.

Bert Thayer, whose firefighting career began in the late 1970s, announced his retirement after 29 years with Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue.
Thayer, who was inspired by his father, a volunteer firefighter for 18 years, got his first opportunity when he started as a summer firefighter for the United States Forest Service in 1978, according to a Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue press release.

The Snoqualmie Firefighters Association recently recognized Lauren Kremer and Anna Findlay, both 2023 graduates of Mount Si High School, with scholarships of $1,500 each. Kremer will attend Whitworth University, while Findlay will attend UCLA.
