Snohomish County: New emergency phone installed at Verlot Ranger Station near Big Four Ice Caves

Monday, the forest service and Snohomish County officially re-launched access to 911 service at the Verlot Ranger Station. In November, Frontier Communications briefly removed the pay phone at the station in the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie Forest. It was then re-installed until an alternative means of emergency communications could be found.

Smoke alarm saves man and dog as fire destroys Poulsbo home

A smoke alarm is being credited with saving a man and his dog from a burning home in Poulsbo Monday afternoon. The fire broke out around 4 p.m. at the home along Lincoln and 11th, according to the Kitsap Sun. The man had been sleeping inside when the smoke alarm went off, allowing him to escape with his dog, Poulsbo fire officials said.

Twin Falls (ID) Fire Department: Fire Stations Need Updated

A citizen committee to explore fire station options will present Monday to the city a study from Pivot North Architecture detailing the needs of the new stations. The presentation will take place at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall.  

While the cost, construction timeline and design of the new stations are not yet known, the department’s leaders have some ideas about what they want their new home bases to look like.  

It may be cheaper to build new stations on new sites than to demolish the existing stations and rebuild in the same locations, he said, although the department will likely keep Station Three on Washington Street South. Stations One, on Second Avenue East, could move elsewhere. And so could Station Two on Falls Avenue.

Atlanta Fire Station Opening May be Delayed

The department is having “a little problem with money” being appropriated on time, Capt. Chris Jackson of Station 21 reported to NPU-B at its Oct. 2 meeting. He said the Station 3 firefighters might have to be temporarily housed at another station until the new firehouse is fully furnished.  

The Fire Rescue Department did not respond to questions.
