The Peoria Fire Department is trained to do much more than just put out flames; in fact now they're adding a new skill to their repertoire, that could save someone's life, but not in the way most would assume. They're joining the fight against human sex trafficking in Central Illinois through a new training.

An unknown suspect broke into a Randle Fire Department substation within the last month, damaging a door, its frame and a fire department truck parked outside. According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, damage was estimated at around $250. Although a door was broken and someone may have gained entry, Fire District 14 Chief Jeff Jaques said there didn’t appear to be anything missing in the building.

Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue is not only geared up to fight fires, but now also has new gadgets to recruit and retain volunteers. Training Capt. Jerry Helm showed off his new purchases of items such as a tent, iPads, TV monitors, signs of all shapes and sizes and a trailer to carry it all in at a recent fire commissioners meeting.

A massive three-alarm fire burned an Everett appliance store Friday evening. The fire at the Judd & Black Appliance Store broke out just after 7:30 p.m., according to Steve Goforth with Everett Fire. Initial reports are it began in a dumpster and spread to the building, but as of midnight on Saturday, those reports appear to not be true.
