In a letter to the editor, the president of an Ohio-based PPE manufacturer is refuting claims that firefighter turnout gear may be hazardous for those donning it for protection. New York firefighter platoon to skip awards ceremony, citing mayor’s criticism of union

A group of city firefighters will skip a ceremony for their colleagues this week, claiming that it’s hypocritical for the mayor to want to congratulate them after expressing such critical views of their union. In an email, Battalion Chief Tucker Wiley wrote that the 16 members of the D platoon have decided not to attend the fire department’s annual awards ceremony on Thursday because of the stance that Mayor Joseph M.

Stamford (CT) Fire and EMS Crews Get Body Armor

“The world is changing, and there have been more and more active shooter incidents with numerous fatalities and many injuries,” said Martin. “I support common-sense gun safety measures that would help prevent many of these types of events. But if something like a Las Vegas or Orlando does happen, we want to ensure our first responders are prepared with the highest level of protection possible to respond quickly in providing timely and critical medical care to the injured.”

 

The city of Stamford partnered with the City of Norwalk, and the Towns of Darien and Fairfield on the grant. This grant is a multi-town equipment cooperative that provides for equipment sharing and assistance across town borders. This is part of Stamford’s strategy of partnering with other municipalities for improved services and shows what can occur when neighbors work together.
