To stay proactive, Norfolk Southern Railway is traveling the east coast to educate first responders on proper response strategies using its own safety train.
“We take them out of the classroom and put them on the train itself,” said Connor Spielmaker, the communications manager with Norfolk Southern Railway.

The Newell Road Fire burning near the Columbia River Gorge in Klickitat County is now 61,313 in size and 71% contained.
On Tuesday, evacuation levels for the town of Roosevelt were reduced to a Level 1 “Be Ready” advisory. All other Evacuation areas remain unchanged, including Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation for residents in the Cleveland, Bickleton and Goodnoe Station areas.

Fireworks have been ruled out as the cause of a fatal Mountlake Terrace townhouse fire, according to South County Fire officials who are still investigating the fire.
Two women — ages 85 and 63 — died in the July 3 fire at the Lake Village Condominiums in the 22700 block of Lakeview Drive.
Investigators found no evidence of fireworks in the area where the fire started, South County Fire spokesperson Leslie Hynes said.

Spokane County Fire District 10 (SCFD10), Spokane County Fire District 3, The Washington State Department of Natural Recourses (DNR), the Airway Heights Fire Department, Fairchild Fire and the City of Spokane responded to a brush fire near the 9800 block of W. Euclid Avenue in Spokane.
According to SCFD10, the fire was about 3 acres and was contained within 15 minutes.
