PHOTOS: The Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation brought a little extra cheer to Shriners Hospital for Children Tuesday for their annual Christmas in July visit.
Santa and Mrs. Claus joined firefighters as they raised the ladder to wave to child patients and greet staff, including doctors and nurses.

Why is Washington the epicenter of the fentanyl crisis?
U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell posed the question at a Seattle round table she convened Monday about the deadly drug, where speakers talked about innovations happening locally and the challenges that lay ahead. The senator pointed to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention numbers showing the state had the biggest increase in the nation—more than 21%—in fatal overdoses reported between February 2022 and February 2023.

A firefighter battling the Newell Road Fire in southern Washington was flown to the hospital Tuesday morning after his water tender truck rolled over, forestry officials said.
The fire grew to nearly 60,000 acres and was considered about 40% contained Tuesday night.
State Route 14 is closed in the area while firefighters battle the flames.

VIDEO: The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) and Seattle Police Department (SPD) said they recently have seen an uptick in intentionally set fires in the Chinatown-International District and First Hill neighborhoods.
According to Seattle fire, most fires have occurred in dumpsters, garbage bins, stairwells of occupied buildings and vacant buildings.
