Small fire department receives huge surprise

A lot of the larger departments in the area were unaware of the needs of smaller departments said Johnson. Belfor helped raise awareness that there’s an in-state need for the larger departments’ used equipment.

“They had me make a wish list of what we needed,” he added.

To Johnson’s surprise, Raber ended up receiving their largest donation ever thanks to departments from across the state donating gear. Items such as Jaws of Life (which run up to $30,000) were donated along with air packs and thermal imaging cameras.

Six-Car Crash Involves Semmes Fire-Rescue Truck

A three-vehicle accident turned into a six-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, including a Semmes fire truck.

According to the Semmes Fire-Rescue Chief, the fire truck that was hit, was blocking the accident scene to protect the firefighters and the victims of the original crash.

Jensen retires from San Juan Island F&R Commission

John Jensen has recently retired from serving as a Fire Commissioner for Fire District 3. His experience and commitment to our community has been a real asset to San Juan Island. Jensen began his career working for the US Civil Service Commission as a Security Investigator. He then worked for the National Park Service, first as a ranger at Pipestone National Monument, Whitman Mission National Historic Site, John Muir National Historic Site, and Point Reyes National Site, and later as a superintendent and district manager in North Cascades National Park for 9 years.

Fiery home explosion rocks Sultan neighborhood

Fire investigators believe a natural gas line or propane tanks caused a home to explode in a Sultan neighborhood early Thursday morning. The explosion along Kessler Drive was felt all over the city. "The header that used to hold the garage door in place is now laying about 20 feet from the front of the building out here against the back of those cars," said neighbor Brent Nault whose home caught on fire from the explosion next door.

Eastern Iowa Towns Look To Help Each Other Out With Fire Trucks

It all started when Lisbon and West Branch got to talking at a Johnson County Mutual Aid Association meeting. Lisbon was looking for a pumper and West Branch had one available.

When it comes to saving lives, fire fighters need reliable equipment. That's why the West Branch Fire Department said it's time to upgrade their pumper.

"It's easier for them to come look at what they're buying and they kind of know what they're getting that way. They know the equipment has been kept in good shape," said Kevin Stoolman, the fire chief in West Branch.
