The main purpose of Oct. 25’s special town meeting is for residents to vote on the Fire Station Expansion Committee’s proposal to build a new station at 23 Kringle Drive. Voters will be asked to approve a total borrowing measure of $2.6 million, which includes $585,000 in lot acquisition costs.

However, the high-dollar proposal has faced resistance from some residents, including Foster, who feels he has a better alternative.

Foster, who lives in town part time, confirmed he’s donating his property at 12 Church St., where Foster rents space to two families. Though Foster said previously he’d be willing to donate the property if the Fire Department needed it, he plans to formally offer it through a letter that will be read at the meeting.

Apparent Theft of a City Ambulance Ends in Wreck on the Northwest Side

A stolen San Antonio Fire Department ambulance plowed into two cars early Saturday morning in the Medical Center, injuring two people, according to police. Officers responded to a call about a crash at 3:19 a.m., Saturday near the corner of Fredericksburg and Wurzbach roads.

When they arrived they noticed two damaged sedans, which had been headed north on Fredericksburg Road, and then officers found the ambulance crashed in some bushes along the southbound lanes of the road.

One of the responding officers said the ambulance apparently "split" the two sedans, hitting both vehicles in the rear, sending them crashing into a traffic light pole.

Harvey laid bare lack of resources, training at Houston Fire Department

The Houston Fire Department's limitations quickly became clear as Harvey's floodwaters rose. Just one high-water rescue vehicle. Decades-old evacuation boats. Sparse training for swift-water rescues. And limited staffing after an 11th-hour decision not to call in major reinforcements to face the catastrophic storm.
