Ghost Ship fire: Oakland releases 50-page report on cause of deadly inferno

Seven of them were huddled next to a couch on the second floor. Another was just 10 feet from the front door. Eight others were found together wrapped in a rug, apparently having fallen all at once when the floor under them collapsed. They, like all the other victims of the Ghost Ship warehouse fire, died of smoke inhalation, their lungs and airways clogged with soot.

Norman Fire Station No. 5 welcomes new fire engine

Norman Fire Department Station No. 5 has been looking forward to getting a new fire engine for a hot minute. The wait is now over. "It's an excellent engine. The equipment we're getting is outstanding," Station 5 Capt. Chris Burn said. In 2008, Norman residents voted to make a temporary half-cent public safety sales tax permanent in April 2014.

In addition to being able to navigate rough terrain, the engine has a better water drafting system than the in-town engines have, Burn said. It also has a 750-gallon water tank.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Wilson said a typical engine is in service for about 15 years before it is moved into the reserve fleet. The previous engine at Station No. 5 was in its 12th year and was a hand-me-down from another station.
