Russellville Fire Dept. officials and Van Horn Construction personnel gave a tour of the new Central Fire Station and Training Center on Wednesday. Van Horn officials said the $6.5 million project is on schedule and will welcome firefighters and administrative employees in December.
The first floor will feature three drive-thru bays for large pumper and ladder trucks exiting onto El Paso Avenue as well as three drive-thru bays for short auxiliary vehicles and reserve pumper trucks exiting onto West B St. The drive-thru bays will allow drivers to bring the trucks in through the back, eliminating the need to stop traffic and back in.

Onset (MA) Fire Officials Propose New Fire Station

The Onset Fire District annual meeting is set for Monday, May 15 and the largest item on the agenda - in size and cost - is a $13.9 million request to build a new fire station on Sand Pond Road. "If we're going to rebuild, let's do this the right way," said Prudential Committee member Marcine Fernandes.
Plans call for a two-story building with space to house the department’s nine vehicles under one roof. New bunks, space for training exercises, a fitness area, space for equipment storage and a community room able to fit 100 people are included, too.

If approved, the station would cost residents an additional $1.44 per $1,000 of assessed home value for a 20-year loan or $1.19 per $1,000 assessed value for a 30-year loan. For home valued at $250,000, those would be $360 and $297 annual increases, respectively.

Hasting (NE) Fire Department Gets New Ambulance

Medical calls have tripled in the last five years for the city of Hastings. That is why the Hastings Fire Department said it was time to order an additional ambulance.Even just last week, we had five calls in about 20 to 25 minutes.

The station already has four ambulances, but with the kind of call volume they're receiving, Fire Chief Kent Gilbert said it's not enough.

"We started the EMS side of this about five years ago," Gilbert said. "Our calls have tripled so we're seeing an increase in demand. At that time, we purchased some new ambulances. The new ambulance will take some of the strain off of those, plus it will help us meet those increasing numbers."
