Boy, Arizona firefighter bond over prosthetic legs in heartwarming video

On the surface, it may not look like a 12-year-old boy and a firefighter would have much in common. But this heartwarming video showed Logan, a 12-year-old boy from Gilbert, and Mase Mattingly, a Gilbert firefighter, bonding over their shared prosthetic legs. Candy Carson, Logan’s mom, said in the video that five years ago, Logan had strep throat, which sent him into septic shock.

Driver leaving bar plows through road sign, careens into Bremerton home

A suspected DUI driver was arrested Thursday night after plowing through a road sign, clipping a tension cable, spinning through a bush and crashing into a home. The driver lost control of the car while headed south on East 24th Street, the Bremerton Police Department says. The crash caused extensive damage.

Man burned trying to save dog as RV erupts in flames in Auburn

A man was burned and his dog died in a fire that broke out in their RV early Friday morning. Firefighters were called to the motor home which was parked outside a home at S. 360th Street and 42nd Ave. S. near Auburn just after midnight. As firefighters fought the flames, medics were called when the man inside was found to have first and second degree burns to his hand while trying to save his dog.

Email from City Hall urges fire department brass to support interim Spokane chief in hiring process

An email written by a city employee heading recruitment of a new Spokane fire chief raises questions about the impartiality of the selection process. Meghann Steinolfson, the city’s human resources analyst in charge of setting up the recruitment process, sent an email to members of the department’s command staff Monday urging them to attend the public forum and “not only meet the candidates, but to support Chief (Brian) Schaeffer.
