Curious to see how the new thermal imaging cameras work on every Flint Fire Department engine? Watch the video above as Flint Fire Quartermaster Rico Phillips walks us through how a firefighter uses the device to see in a completely dark environment to locate heat signatures in a room.
After a successful grant from the Hundred Club of Genesee, Shiawasee and Lapeer Counties, thermal imaging cameras will now be on every Flint Fire Department engine. The $5,200 grant allowed the department to buy four thermal imaging cameras, the city said in a statement.

Pittsfield (MA) Gets New Fire Apparatus

A new ladder truck has arrived at the Pittsfield Fire Department, but it won't see any action until early next month at least. In the interim, firefighters will be busy learning to use the new apparatus and mounting equipment.
The $780,000 vehicle from Pierce Manufacturing Co., now the department's Truck 2, gleamed in the afternoon sunlight inside headquarters after its arrival on Friday. Delivery was expected a week ago, but was delayed three times by snowstorms.

The 2014 model has a 100-foot ladder, which operates differently than the previous Truck 2. Firefighters will be trained to use the ladder by a Wisconsin-based engineer over four days beginning Feb. 27, he said. Various equipment, already in the department's stock, will be installed in early- to mid-March. Czerwinski said the truck would be road-ready after that.
