VIDEO: Twenty five years ago Thursday, what at the time was the world’s larges grain elevator exploded southwest of Wichita, killing seven and injuring 10. The results and recovery efforts by emergency crews at the DeBruce Grain elevator went on for weeks.
On June 8, 1998, Sedgwick County firefighters Ray Hensley and Robert Timmons responded to the hectic scene southwest of Wichita.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Firefighters responded to a large homeless encampment fire that destroyed multiple vehicles and boats in Tacoma Thursday morning.
According to Joe Meinecke of the Tacoma Fire Department, two cars, two RVs and two boats were burned near 1321 Stewart Street shortly before 8 a.m., and no injuries were reported.

Fathers often dream of their sons following them into their line of work, and daughters have been known to follow their mothers in their careers. We don’t often hear of a son and daughter following their father into the same job as firefighters, but that’s what’s happened in Bellevue.
Battalion Chief Doug Halbert recently welcomed his 27-year-old daughter Emily and 25-year-old son Sam to the Bellevue Fire Department in 2022.

Three kayakers went missing in the Green River Gorge just hours before sundown on Wednesday, prompting the response of multiple agencies in southeast King County.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., Enumclaw Fire, Puget Sound Fire, Valley Regional Fire, Renton Fire, King County Medic One and King County Sherriff’s Office were dispatched to the 29500 block of the Green River Gorge north of Enumclaw and east of Black Diamond on June 7.
