Fire chief’s son at Dallas protest helped protect bystanders

When Rev. Jeff Hood heard gunfire, he sprung into action — a reflex he said comes from watching his fire chief dad serve and protect their community. Hood was present at the Dallas protest last week, where five officers were left dead. Toward the end of the protest, Hood said he heard gunshots and, “As I looked up, two officers collapsed.

Update: Cops say Auburn man shot to death, then home set on fire

An incident that began as a fire has turned into allegations of murder. On Wednesday, a mobile home in the the 29600 block of 142nd Avenue South was destroyed by fire. Police now say in court documents that a teen who lived in trailer was shot to death in retaliation for an earlier fight. Two men both described in court documents as transients have been arrested and are being held on $1 million bail for investigation of murder and arson.

Bothell: Semi-truck plunges off I-405 overpass onto freeway below, killing driver

A semi driver was killed Friday night when his truck and trailer went over the side of an elevated off-ramp and landed upside down on the highway below. That driver has now been identified as Alan Mooney of Federal Way. The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the Bothell area. Mooney was heading westbound on State Route 522 when he attempted to exit onto Interstate 405, according to Trooper Chris Webb with the Washington State Patrol.

Three cars, apartment catch fire in Longview

Firefighters responded to the report of an apartment fire around 12:15 a.m. Saturday at 818 9th Avenue. Crews arrived and found three cars ablaze with flames spreading to the second floor of the building. Residents were evacuated and crews quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours while investigating the incident and checking for fire that may have spread into the apartments.
