Illinois fire department wants to expand advanced life support service

The turf war between Advanced Medical Transport Inc. of Central Illinois and the Peoria Fire Department, dormant for many years, could be heating up again. Nearly a decade ago, the two sparred over which entity would provide paramedic service and patient transport within the city limits. AMT reached an agreement with the city in which it was to pay $85,000, adjusted annually for inflation, for exclusive patient transport in Peoria.

Fire damages Spokane restaurant

A fire damaged Allie’s Vegan Pizzeria & Cafe in north Spokane on Sunday afternoon. It began outside the restaurant, burning grass and juniper bushes, and spread to the building’s attic and roof, the Spokane Fire Department said. Damage from the flames and smoke was estimated at $30,000. One person at the scene received a minor burn and another had smoke inhalation.

Firefighters battle fire at homeless camp in Federal Way

Firefighters battled a fire Sunday afternoon at a homeless camp near Celebration Park in Federal Way. The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. in a wooded area near South 330th Street and Pacific Highway South. A thick plume of black smoke could be seen for several miles. Police blocked off the area to traffic.
