1 person dies in house fire in Tacoma

One person was killed after they became trapped in a house fire in Tacoma's Stadium district early Wednesday morning. When crews arrived at north 6th and Stadium Way, flames were shooting out of the second floor of the building. A witness told firefighters that there might be someone inside. Crews found one person, who was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Follow Up: East Pierce Fire Chief's car wash might have saved dogs life

Stephanie Dyches was told Cora, her 7-year-old pitbull mix, had died. “He said I don’t think she made it,” Dyches remembers hearing from firefighters. She’s glad they were wrong. Dyches car caught fire while she and her 4-year-old daughter Serenity were shopping at the Bonney Lake Wal-Mart. Someone called 911 when they noticed smoke coming from the windows that had been left cracked open to give Cora fresh air.
