As she left Joann fabric and craft store in north Spokane on Sunday afternoon, Allison Tripp donned a homemade face mask.
The mask was the first of many attempts for Tripp, who had returned to Joann to buy more supplies.
Tripp and people across Spokane have flocked to local fabric and craft stores for supplies to make masks for first responders.

A woman was killed in a residential fire in Ferndale on Monday.
Firefighters from Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded to a report of a residential fire in the 7200 block of Enterprise Road at about 11:15am.
A man and woman were reportedly trapped inside.
Fire Chief Larry Hoffman tells KGMI the man was able to escape, but efforts from bystanders to rescue the woman were unsuccessful.

Firefighters quickly contained a farm shed fire in northwest Spokane Monday morning.
Crews responded to the fire near W. Jacobs Road and N. Wood Road to find the shed fully engulfed in flames around 5:50 a.m. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control and contained it to the shed, though the structure is a total loss.

Yakima County firefighters are taking steps to ensure they have enough personal protective equipment when they go on medical calls during the coronavirus pandemic.
Some of the Valley’s larger departments are limiting the number of people who go in to work with a patient, stretching out the supply of masks, gowns and gloves.

VIDEO: A heavily involved fire destroyed at least nine boats and a boathouse Friday night at the Jim Clark Marina in south Seattle.
Seattle firefighters were called after 9:30 p.m. to knock down the fire in the 1300 block of Southwest Spokane Street, where crews had limited access.
Fire officials said it took crews about 20 minutes to get the fire under control and about 90 minutes to extinguish it.
