More than 30 members of the Spokane Fire Department are in self-quarantine in an attempt to stop the spread of sickness amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The firefighters – representing about 10% of the department –were exposed to patients who had symptoms similar to COVID-19. As of Thursday morning, none of them had received a positive test for the novel coronavirus – though one firefighter is in the hospital.

Firefighters rescued one man but found another dead inside a burning home in Marysville early Thursday. Firefighters were called to the home in the 7900 block of 72nd Dr NE shortly before 3 a.m. after getting a report of heavy smoke in the three-story house. Spokane Valley firefighters were able to prevent a fire in a south Valley backyard from spreading to a home early Thursday morning. According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, crews responded to the 13000 block of E. 29th Ave. with the homeowners reporting a large fire in their backyard getting close to their home.
