Those opposed to the devices say they're complicated to install under stress and could lead to dangerous unintended consequences — including blocking authorities from an attacker inside a classroom.

California fire officials said a wildfire north of San Francisco destroyed another 162 homes, raising the number of homes destroyed to 1,050 and making it the fourth worst wildfire in the state's history. The tally announced on Sunday brought the total number of homes destroyed in two wildfires burning in Northern California to nearly 1,600, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

Fire crews faced challenging conditions while fighting a 2-alarm fire overnight at Kadow’s Marina along the Columbia River. No one was hurt in the fire. Firefighters arrived at the marina around 10:30 p.m. Sunday to find two burning house boats, with flames spreading to a third. Clark County Fire officials said there aren’t any fire hydrants in the area, and the limited water supply added to problems with the slippery docks and hanging power lines.

More than 50 women from Washington, Oregon and California are participating in the Women & Fire Training Weekend at the Ray Lee Brown Training Center in Snohomish. The camp gives female firefighters a chance to meet and train with other women in live fire, power tools, auto extrication and forcible entry drills.
