Indiana man convicted of 53 counts in deadly home explosion

A judge is set to consider whether an Indianapolis man should be eligible for a life without parole prison sentence after a jury convicted him of murder, arson and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud in a home explosion that gutted a subdivision and killed two neighbors. St. Joseph County Superior Court Judge John Marnocha will hear arguments Wednesday, a day after a jury convicted Mark Leonard, 46, of 53 counts after deliberating less than four hours over two days.

Ohio township disbands fire department

The trucks sat idle inside the closed Madison Township fire station today, the jackets and boots and helmets lining the walls, as single locksmith worked outside, changing the key codes needed to enter the once-busy station. It’s not because there weren’t any emergencies in the township of about 3,200 located just east of Newark in Licking County.

Explosion rips through Newport aerospace company

An explosion ripped through an aerospace company in Newport Tuesday night, shattering glass and causing a section of the roof to collapse. The blast, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m., sent five people to the hospital. At least one person was taken by helicopter to Spokane. “People heard the explosion from miles away,” said Grant Sirevog, the undersheriff for Pend Oreille County.

Spokane: Training to charge to the sound of gunfire

An active shooter incident is something most of us don't want to think about, but area first responders – like Spokane firefighters – need to be prepared for, so they're conducting training exercises to prepare for that worst case scenario. Firefighters are heading out on service calls now with ballistic helmets and vests specially outfitted to carry life saving equipment.
