Arlington Fire Improves Fire Protection Rating

The fire protection services of the City of Arlington, as rated by the Washington Survey & Rating Bureau (WSRB), has improved to Class 4 from a Class 5, Fire Chief Dave Kraski announced at the January 6, 2020 City Council meeting. The new rating will take effect April 1, 2020. WSRB evaluates communities’ fire protection abilities every five years, reviewing facilities, equipment, training, staffing, water supply, and more.

Pasco Fire holding first responders marriage class to promote effective communication

First responders see a lot in their line of work. Sometimes it’s hard not to bring it home and talk about it with your loved ones, which could potentially cause a strain on a relationship. That’s where a local fire department is stepping in. Pasco Fire is hosting a “Challenges of a First Responder Marriage” class in March.

Measure to fund San Juan County emergency radio upgrade on ballot

Voters have the chance to approve a sales tax increase to improve emergency radio communications in San Juan County during a special Feb. 11 election. The measure includes two taxes: one of 0.05 percent without an expiration date and a 0.15 percent tax that expires after 60 months — or 5 years — to be used for the design and construction of the communications system.

Historic 1949 Blaine firetruck gets restoration from local family

PHOTO: For the Renskers and Ooms family, the fire engine had always been more than just a truck. It was a prized 1949 American LaFrance, a sturdy, agile rig that exceeded 40 years’ service as a frontline engine to the Blaine Fire Department – about double the average turnover rate for engines today. The rig was a Blaine staple.

City of Kennewick selects Chad Michael as new Fire Chief

The City of Kennewick announced Thursday that Chad Michael will be the new Fire Chief of the Kennewick Fire Department. Sourced through Western Fire Chiefs Association's Confidential Recruiting service, Michael will officially be sworn in on March 17 at the council meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. A community reception is also being planned for March with a day and time to be announced.
