Abandoned church in Wapato damaged by fire

A former church caught on fire in Wapato on Tuesday night. Around 9:30 p.m., Wapato firefighters were sent to 102 East 5th Street, the former Assembly of God Church. That’s where firefighters found flames damaging classrooms, a sanctuary and a stage. Wapato Fire Chief Bob Clark also told KAPP-KVEW heavy smoke and fire caused significant damage to the second floor.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS fire plan calls for levy lid lift

South Whidbey Fire/EMS recently approved a five-year strategic plan that calls for a levy lid lift. The fire department is considering asking voters to increase the levy from 65 cents to 95 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value to hire additional staff, keep up with increasing call volumes and replace aging apparatus, according to a press release.

Propane tanks explode after catching fire at Moses Lake homeless camp

There were some fireworks when a makeshift homeless shelter caught fire on West Marina Drive early Tuesday. Moses Lake firefighters say the outdoor shelter near an abandoned lumber yard caught fire just before 3:21 a.m. The city’s fire marshal says a wood-burning device caught the shelter on fire and spread to nearby propane tanks.

Marysville Fire District receives Class 3 rating

The Marysville Fire District was rated slightly higher this year for its fire protection by the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau. This could mean lower insurance payments for those who own property in Fire District 12. The bureau rates fire districts with a “Protection Class” from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best rating.

Four people injured in fire at Tacoma apartment complex

VIDEO: Four people were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at a Tacoma apartment complex. Tacoma Fire Department public information officer Joe Meineke said the call came in just before 7 a.m., when firefighters were dispatched to the 5600 block of East Swan Creek Drive. Crews found heavy fire and smoke from the second floor when they arrived, and the fire quickly spread to a second apartment.
