Spokane could deploy goats to tame wildfire fuel

Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer is looking to hire scores of new firefighters. They’ll each stand some 20 inches tall and have four legs capped by cloven hooves. Schaeffer calls them biological masticators, herbivores or browsers. But most people probably know them as goats. Schaeffer and Councilwoman Lori Kinnear are proposing that the city of Spokane pilot a program to bring trips of goats into the city’s overgrown areas to chow down – all with the hope of reducing wildfire risk.

Man who bought ‘residential’ firehouse sued by Seattle for using as residence

Kroon told KIRO 7 he “thought we had essentially bought a residential property” for $712,000. The Seattle man then spent thousands of dollars on interior remodeling, and for more than three years, his extended family and friends used the firehouse for holidays, celebrations, charity fundraisers, graduation parties and as an office until a Land Use Notice of Violation arrived in July of 2016.
