New Yakima firefighters' union says city won't pay for prevention programs

In a post on Facebook, the Yakima Firefighters Association says city council has eliminated "any and all fire prevention and education." In that same post, they give stats pointing out an increase in youth fire setters as more prevention programs have disappeared. The union writes in the post that in 2008, they believe thirty-five percent of Yakima's fires may have been set by someone.

Fire station catches fire in North Bend

PHOTO: Eastside Fire & Rescue crews responded Tuesday to a report of a fire in North Bend - and when they arrived on scene they found smoke and flames pouring from one of their own fire stations. The incident unfolded just before 3 p.m. Tuesday when firefighters responded to a fire alarm at a building at 42804 SE 172nd St.

Good Samaritans help free North Kitsap Fire & Rescue truck from snow

A North Kitsap Fire & Rescue truck that had become stuck in the snow got a little help from a few good Samaritans who happened to be passing by early Monday morning. At around 3 a.m. Trentin Moss, Josh Smith and Shallee Baker had been driving through Suquamish — checking in on friends and family to ensure everyone was safe while the snow continued to accumulate — when they noticed the stalled fire engine.

Dispute leads to motorhome arson in Grays Harbor County, deputies say

Deputies with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department say they arrested a man on Sunday in connection with arson of two motorhomes. The fires happened around 8 a.m. Sunday on Atlantic Avenue in Ocosta, deputies said. Arriving deputies said they interviewed witnesses at the scene and were able to establish a suspect who was seen in the area at the time of the fires.
