Windermere employees become CPR certified thanks to Richland firefighters

Richland firefighters have trained another Richland business to perform hands-only CPR. Windermere Real Estate did employee training with the fire department last month. They're now considered a Heart Safe Campus, a program the firefighters started more than a year ago. "Our work in cardiac resuscitation statistically put us up towards the top in the country," said Battalion Chief James Hempstead.

Manton Way fire grows to 8,700 acres in North Franklin County, is 70% contained

The Manton Way fire between Mesa and Connell has grown to 8,700 acres and is now 70% contained, according to Franklin Co. Fire District #1. Chief Eric Mauseth said crews have been working around the clock since the fire first broke out around 1 p.m. on Monday. Franklin Co., Walla Walla Co., Benton Co.

Semi sparks fire hundreds of acres in size near Lind

A semi engulfed in flames sparked a large brush fire south of Lind Monday afternoon. At about 4 p.m., Lind Fire Chief Kevin Staring says the semi truck driver believes the refrigerator in his sleeping quarters shorted out causing the fire. Parked on the side of SR 395 several miles south of Lind, Chief Staring says the nearby field caught fire as flames consumed the truck cab.

Update: Ballard fire likely started with electrical equipment

The Seattle Fire Department is investigating how a massive fire started in Ballard Monday afternoon. Officials say the cause remains undetermined, but they think it’s likely connected to overheated electrical equipment. The three-alarm fire burned four businesses near the corner of Northwest Market Street and 24th Avenue Northwest.

Photo: South County Fire rolls in new fire engine

PHOTOS: South County Fire welcomed its new fire engine Tuesday morning with a traditional roll-in ceremony. During the ceremony, those in attendance pushed the new engine into Lynnwood Civic Center Fire Station 15. The custom dates back to the 1830s and the days of horse-drawn equipment, which could not be easily backed into the station.
