No one was injured in an early-morning fire caused more than $55,000 damage to an Edmonds townhouse.
A passerby called 911 at 4:35 a.m. to report smoke and flames coming from the two-story structure in the 7800 block of 196th St. SW. “This is less than half a mile down the road from Edmonds Fire Station 16 so we had firefighters on scene within minutes,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for South County Fire.

Douglas County Fire District 2 is growing.
The district was awarded $1,070,724 last month through a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to pay for five more career firefighters.
“This is a huge boost to the district’s financial stability as we continue to expand services and protection to the people who live, work and visit our area,” Fire District 2 Commissioner Bob Black said in a news release.

Pierce County fire and rescue crews responded to two fires back-to-back early Friday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, West Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded to an apartment fire in Lakewood.
The fire tore through a 2-story apartment complex the Clover Creek Apartments on Addison Street.
One person is in critical condition and is being transported to the hospital.

A 5-year-old boy is credited with alerting his great-aunt and mother to a fire that destroyed their Wiley City home Wednesday morning.
Diana Espinoza said she was in her home in the 10700 block of Rockstrom Road around 9:30 a.m. when she said she heard what sounded like tapping at her door.
“As soon as I got up, the little boy said there is a fire,” Espinoza said.

Firefighters from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority extinguished a garage fire that broke out at about 3:03 p.m. Wednesday at the Alderbrooke Apartments in the 400 block of Novak Lane.
Firefighters discovered smoke from the eaves of the detached seven-bay single story garage/storage. Firefighters contained the fire to the garage, according to Puget Sound Fire.
